Division of Student Affairs
In the last decade, the Division of Student Affairs has grown dramatically to meet the complex needs of students entering college today. Partnered with academic affairs, the division enables students to expand their ideas and test their beliefs through Miami's many organizations, as well as a rich residential and cocurricular environment. In addition, Miami's thriving Greek system provides many students with supplemental opportunities in which to develop leadership skills and become respected leaders on campus and in the greater Oxford community.
Fostering Leadership
$3.3 million
Miami graduates have long been noted for their leadership skills. The Division of Student Affairs fosters the potential in all Miami students to one day provide the leadership that will transform their workplaces and communities.
Formal Study of Leadership
The division will create leadership programs in partnership with academic affairs that will help students apply the theories of leadership to their daily lives.
Minority and Women's Leadership
New programs in minority and women's leadership will help students strengthen their approaches to leadership and educate all students about the importance of creating diverse organizations.
Creating Ethical Leaders
In an age of ethical crisis and distrust of national leaders, it is important to generate ethical leaders. The division seeks endowment to expand programming that directly addresses ethical leadership.
Sorority and Fraternity Leadership
The founding place of five national sororities and fraternities, Miami is the "mother of fraternities." Each of our 50 chapters is committed to the academic mission of the university, the value of service, and the development of character within its members.
Embracing Difference
$2.15 million
A Miami education must prepare students to lead in a complex and diverse world. Miami intends to become the choice university for the most highly qualified students of all backgrounds.
Multicultural Student Enrichment
With funds in this area, the division will develop new programs to support multicultural students on campus and develop programs that foster conversations and understanding among all students about cultural and societal differences.
Center for Black Culture and Learning
To support the initiatives of the Center for Black Culture and Learning, the division must create an endowment to help ensure the success of programs that focus on cultural understanding, intellectual exchange, and social engagement.
Miami Tribe Partnership
A model university-tribal partnership, Miami University has a powerful working relationship with the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Additional funds will perpetuate this important relationship, expand cultural and academic exchanges, and support student involvement in scholarly work with the tribe and Miami faculty.
GLBT Support
Gay and lesbian students are valued members of our community, yet too often encounter prejudice. Gifts from alumni and friends in this area will support awareness programs and provide support for students addressing issues of sexuality.
Learning Assistance Fund
The Bernard B. Rinella Learning Assistance Center serves over 6,000 Miami students annually. The center provides assistance that often moves a student from failure to success. The Learning Assistance Fund will expand the activities of the center.
Living Learning Community Endowment and Renovation
$1.25 million
Miami's theme-learning first-year residence hall programs have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as "stellar" examples of academic programming.
Health Education and Wellness Endowment
$300,000
With an endowment for health education and wellness, the division can offer more students the mental and physical health support they need, sooner.
