The Miami University Campaign For Love and Honor continues to celebrate successes. Recently, several large gifts were received, pushing the campaign total to $320 million.
Campus Campaign
In spring 2007, President Hodge announced a new fundraising initiative exclusively available to current and retired Miami faculty and staff. The Faculty/Staff/Retiree Endowment Program recognizes the impact of faculty and staff and celebrates their role in the Miami family.
As a result, under this new program, current and retired Miami employees can create a named endowment for $10,000, rather than the traditional $25,000 minimum gift amount. Once the initial commitment is fulfilled, the university will provide a $5,000 match.
There are currently 27 funds that are part of the new Faculty/Staff/Retiree Endowment program. Among the areas these newly created funds support are scholarships, graduate fellowships, study abroad programs, Mock Trial program, academic areas and library programs. Several more new endowments are being discussed and prepared.
Overall, current and former faculty and staff have committed more than $6.1 million to Miami during the The Miami University Campaign For Love and Honor.
Northeast Ohio Gala
The Northeast Ohio Regional Campaign Gala was held Nov. 9 at the Intercontinental Hotel at the Cleveland Clinic. More than 250 guests attended to celebrate the success of the campaign.
The Black Tie event included speeches by Northeast Ohio Campaign Chair Ted Goble `68; student Kerry McCormack `10, a native of Cleveland and student member of The Miami University Board of Trustees; Dr. Melissa Chase, associate dean in The School of Education and Allied Professions; Sue Morten Rogers `57, regional campaign chair; and President Hodge. Members of Miami Men's Glee Club provided musical entertainment.
Bicentennial Update
Excitement is building for the upcoming celebration of Miami's Bicentennial in 2009. Charter Day Ball, the formal event held at Miami every three years, will kick-off the year-long celebration in February 2009. Other Bicentennial activities will include a series of events, held both locally and nationwide, throughout the year. It is hoped that all alumni will be able to participate in the Bicentennial in some way.
Also in honor of the Bicentennial, Campaign staff will launch a nationwide fundraising effort aimed at increasing alumni participation in the annual fund.
