Perhaps the truest test of an intercollegiate athletic program's impact on its student-athletes is seen in the continued commitment of its alumni.
For Miami University 's men's golf program, the dedication shown by its alumni is essential to the program's survival. Miami men's golf receives no athletic department financial support and is solely dependent upon the support of its alumni and supporters.
"It goes without saying that our former players and alumni are the backbone of our program," head men's golf coach John Wiler said. "If we're going to continue to succeed, it's vital that they continue to be engaged by and involved with our program. We're always looking for ways to enhance that communication."
One of the many answering the call to support the program is Richard McVey '81, a letterwinner on the 1981 MAC Championship team and long-time contributor to the program. McVey's recent gift will supplement the operational budget of the program, which includes everything from travel and equipment to recruiting expenses.
"Generous support like that from Rick McVey is what allows us to maintain a competitive program and give our student-athletes the best possible experience," Wiler said.
McVey is CEO of Market Axess, which operates a leading electronic trading platform for U.S. and European high-grade corporate bonds. He earned his B.S. in business education from Miami before obtaining his MBA from Indiana University . McVey is married to Tracy Flanigan McVey '82, a graduate of Miami 's school of business.
