Construction at Miami University is progressing at a rapid pace in Oxford and at the Middletown campus. Many of these improvements are funded in part by The Miami University Campaign For Love and Honor, and will allow Miami to offer the latest resources to students, faculty and staff.
Following the most successful ice hockey season in school history and the synchronized skating program’s fourth place finish in the national championship, construction on the new home for these teams is nearing completion. Contractors are nearly finished with the last of the exterior masonry work and are now concentrating on the final, major additions to the interior of the building. Landscaping will begin soon. The new Goggin ice arena will open in Summer 2006 and will replace the original ice arena on High Street. Deconstruction on the original Goggin will not begin until after the new ice arena is fully operational.
Behind Millett Hall, the varsity softball field is preliminarily set for a summer 2006 completion date. The retaining wall is nearly complete and the field itself will be the final step in the project.
The School of Engineering and Applied Science building on High Street is being completed in two phases: the west end (Phase 1) and the east end (Phase 2). The west end should be completed by this fall. Workers are installing the interior walls, piping and duct work, and masonry work has begun. The east end will be finished by the end of the calendar year. Work to finish the steel structure is currently underway.
The basic design for the new Richard T. Farmer School of Business building has been approved. Technical development for the design and construction drawings is in progress.
On the Middletown campus, the construction of the Campus Community Center is rapidly nearing completion. Masons are installing the last of the brick and stone work and contractors are installing interior partitions and building systems in preparation for the Center’s opening this fall.
In non-campaign related construction, the new Psychology building is slated for a July/August completion, with the last of the interior work currently underway. Renovations to McGuffey Hall are complete, with only a few minor exceptions. A parking garage off Campus Avenue should be fully operational by the end of the spring semester. The final details, including the gates and ticketing machines, are being installed.
Construction updates, along with progress photos, can be found on the Physical Facilities website at www.pfd.muohio.edu.
